When Animal Rescuers Saw This ‘Octopus’ Lookalike Animal, They Couldn’t Believe Their Eyes
Cats are frequently considered to be independent creatures.
Most cats stay outside by themselves all day, coming inside only to eat and use the litter box. They are remarkably low-maintenance as a result.
But if you don’t regularly clean some cats’ fur, it can get out of control and become a problem.
Hidey the cat’s owner was unable to properly care for her, so she went years without being groomed.
When animal rescuers eventually caught her, her hair was so thick that she resembled an octopus.
The cat’s owner, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, was taken to a nursing facility. They called the Pittsburgh Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center when they saw Hidey there.
Hidey may have gone up to two years without any care, according to animal experts. Some of the hair had a length of 6 to 8 inches.
Hidey was helped out of her matted fur by the veterinarian Jenn Levitzki, who posted a video of the procedure on Facebook. She said in the video, “Hidey has the worse matting I have ever seen; she has dreadlocks.”
Before the procedure, Hidey was put to sleep to make her more comfortable.
“She suffered from severe matting (dreadlocks, really), the likes of which had been neglected for years,” said a post on the shelter’s Facebook page, according to People.
“Our Medical team shaved off the pounds of intertwined fur from her body &, needless to say, this cat is feeling so much better now!”
Hidey moved in with a distant ancestor of her previous owner.
Hidey could have stayed healthy if she had received the proper care.
